Todd Throckmorton begins his third season at New Mexico, coaching the Lobo tight ends. Throckmorton recruits northeastern New Mexico, Colorado and the Kansas junior colleges. Junior tight end Chris Mark started 11 games in 2007, catching 12 passes for 147 yards and three touchdowns. Senior John Mulchrone had 20 receptions for 282 yards in 2006, the best numbers by a UNM tight end since David Sloan had 24 catches for 320 yards in 1994. Throckmorton, 42, was the offensive line coach at NCAA Div. II Missouri Western from 2004-05, the second stint at his alma mater. Throckmorton was also an assistant at the St. Joseph, Mo., school from 1990-96. Missouri Western finished 9-3 in 2005 and ranked 25th in the country. Throckmorton's offensive line unit, which included four all-conference honorees, paved the way for All-American running back Jeremiah White to set the school rushing record with 1,801 yards, an average of 150.1 yards per game. Prior to Missouri Western, Throckmorton spent four years as the head coach at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. He compiled an overall record of 11-33 from 2000-03, including 7-25 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Throckmorton's Fort Lewis teams produced 30 All-RMCA performers, 14 academic All-RMAC selections and two RMAC Freshman of the Year award winners. The Skyhawks were one of the most dominant offensive teams in the league, leading all NCAA Division II schools in passing offense (373.5 yards per game) during the 2002 season. Prior to Fort Lewis, Throckmorton was at San Jose State, where he was an assistant coach for three seasons from 1997-99 under current Lobo offensive coorfdinator Dave Baldwin. Throckmorton served as Baldwin's defensive coordinator in 1998 and 1999, and worked with inside linebackers all three years. Former Lobo offensive line coach Bob Bostad - now at Wisconsin - was also on the San Jose State staff in 1997-98. Throckmorton spent seven years at Missouri Western from 1990-96, coaching a variety of positions for the Griffons, including wide receiver, offensive line and linebackers. He was Missouri Western's assistant head coach during the 1996 season. Throckmorton was a graduate assistant coach on the offensive line at the University of South Dakota in 1989. He served as the restricted earnings coach at East Tennessee State University during the spring of 1990, responsible for tight ends and tackles. A former offensive and defensive lineman, Throckmorton received his bachelor's degree in Physical Education from Missouri Western in 1987. He was on the Dean's Honor Roll four semesters, posting a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.3. Throckmorton graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1989 with a master's degree in Physical Education and a 3.6 GPA. Throckmorton and his wife Lea Ann, enjoy fitness, traveling and golf. |
