NEW MEXICO: Three-year letterman who has played cornerback and safety...is one of the biggest and best athletes in the group...began 2011 as a starter at safety but stayed active when he came off the bench after week four...excellent leaping ability (35.5-inch vertical) and could make a real impact on defense as he improves his technique and develops in the weight room...the son of former Seattle Seahawks (1984-87) and Indianapolis Colts (1988-90) linebacker Fredd Young...the older Young played at New Mexico State from 1980-83 and in the NFL for seven seasons.

2011 (JUNIOR): Played in all 12 games with four starts...recorded 38 tackles on the season with 0.5 tackles for loss and one pass breakup...had a career-high eight tackles, all solos, coming off the bench against Nevada in week six....finished with seven tackles against Sam Houston State in week four, six tackles vs. Texas Tech in week three and five tackles with his half-tackle for loss at Boise State in the season finale.

2010 (SOPHOMORE): Had 31 tackles in nine games from his safety position...started at Oregon and UNLV and at home against Wyoming...missed the final three games due to an injury...had a career-high seven tackles twice, against Texas Tech and Colorado State.

2009 (REDSHIRT FRESHMAN): Played in 8 games, primarily as a reserve cornerback...had 4 tackles, including 3 against Colorado State...had his first career tackle at Texas A&M.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2008 graduate of Las Cruces Mayfield High School...first team all-state defensive back and second team all-state receiver as a senior for the state champion Trojans...had 6 interceptions - 2 for TDs - from his cornerback position, plus 42 catches for 506 yards and 3 TDs as a receiver...Mayfield, 39-1 from 2006-08, finished 12-1 and beat Clovis 49-48 in overtime to win the 2007 title...played for head coach Michael Bradley...also pitched for the baseball team.
