Lobo Football Hosts Successful Spring Alumni Event
April 17, 2009
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The New Mexico football program held a spring alumni event Friday night with more than 50 former players and guests on-hand. The former Lobos celebrated the great traditions and history of New Mexico football while meeting the new coaching staff. The event kicks off a fun weekend surrounding the Lobo football program with the Cherry-Silver Spring game set for Saturday at 1 p.m. MT in University Stadium.
"This is our first annual alumni event and to see this great showing is tremendous," said Lobo head coach Mike Locksley. "We have guys here from the 1950s through the 2000s. It was a great success and I'm hoping it only gets bigger. This is about former Lobos talking about the great traditions and we have a strong legacy to sell. It is important as the head football coach to have these guys come back and be a part of this. It really means a lot to my staff and I."
Many of the former Lobos watched the final spring practice before making their way to the event. Numerous Lobo standouts were in attendance including QB Stoney Case and TE Walt Arnold.
Following practice, Locksley addressed the crowd and introduced his staff. The event included a catered meal from Rex's Hamburgers before the meet-and-greet session. Former teammates and friends shared stories and reflected on their Lobo experiences while talking with the new staff.
New Mexico football plans on continuing this tradition in years to come.
