Sept. 25, 2011 New Mexico Football Coach Mike Locksley Relieved of Coaching Duties Assoc. Head Coach George Barlow will serve as interim coach for remainder of the season. Contact: Frank Mercogliano (fmercog@unm.edu/505-410-4844) Albuquerque, N.M. --- University of New Mexico Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs has announced that football coach Mike Locksley has been relieved of his duties and no longer will serve as head coach. Krebs announced that George Barlow, associate head coach and defensive coordinator, will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. A press conference will be held at 3 p.m. on the third floor of the Tow Diehm Building. Paul Krebs will address the media at that time. The Lobos are currently 0-4 on the season after dropping their Homecoming game on Saturday night 48-45 in overtime to Sam Houston State, a Division I-FCS team. Locksley was introduced as the 29th head coach in New Mexico football history on December 9, 2008 at a large press conference at the UNM Student Union Building. However, Locksley in two-plus years went just 2-26, the only wins coming in the home finales in 2009 (29-27 over Colorado State) and 2010 (34-31 over Wyoming).
