Dec. 4, 2012
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - University of New Mexico junior running back Kasey Carrier earned second-team All-Mountain West honors, the conference announced Tuesday.
Carrier set a UNM record for rushing yards in a single season with 1,469, and he scored 15 touchdowns. He also established UNM and MW single-game records with his 338-yard rushing performance against Air Force on Oct. 20.
Carrier was the lone second-team selection for UNM. The Lobos had nine honorable-mention performers: junior kicker Justus Adams, junior linebacker Dallas Bollema, sophomore left guard LaMar Bratton, sophomore kick returner Chase Clayton, junior center Dillon Farrell, junior defensive end Jacori Greer, junior left tackle Darryl Johnson, senior strong safety Matt Raymer and junior punter Ben Skaer.
Of the 10 Lobos to earn honors, only one is a senior.
New Mexico's total of 10 honorees tied San Diego State for fourth among the 10 teams in the conference in total awards garnered. MW tri-champion Fresno State led the conference with 15 honorees, including a league-high seven first-team selections. Tri-champion Boise State had 13 overall selections, Nevada had 12.
The Lobos, who currently rank No. 5 in the nation in rushing at 301.3 yards per game (the season's statistics will become final after all bowl games take place), also were one of four schools to have three offensive linemen honored. Boise State (one first-team two-second team selections), Nevada and San Diego State (both had one first-team, one second-team, one honorable mention) were the others.
