He played in the 2008 US Open and notched wins at over 15 professional events throughout his career, including the 2009 Capital One Classic and 2008 New Mexico Open. During his tenure as a Lobo (1990-94), Kortan was a 1992 All-American selection and Western Athletic champion. He also notched wins at the 1993 Fox Acres Invitational and was an Academic All-American selection in 1994. Kortan, a Yankton, S.D., native, has lived in Albuquerque for the past 13 years. "It's exciting," said Kortan. "It's a change in my life that I'm looking forward to. It's another chapter, another challenge, another step. It's pretty exciting and things are moving along quite well." "He knows a lot about the game of golf," Millican said. "But, he's also learned a lot about what it takes to get the most out of yourself. That's what we're trying to do with our team is teach them how to get the most out of themselves. If he can relay anything to those guys that he's learned, He's going to help us out a lot. He's been there and done most of the things that they want to accomplish with their golf career." Kortan graduated from UNM in 1994 with a degree in University Studies. Kortan's brother Rob also competed for the Lobos from 1998-2001. |
