CAREER VARSITY NUMBERS 2004-05 (THIS SEASON): Name pronounced mah-dah-LEET-so mu-TEE-ah...Potential to be one of the best collegiate golfers this season..One of the most talented players on the course...Great ball striker...Shows great composure on the golf course...This summer qualified for the U.S. Public Links Tournament and the U.S. Amateur and advanced to the round of 32 in both events...Also won the Sun Country Amateur. 2003-04 (JUNIOR): Played in 11 tournaments , 10 varsity...Finished the season with three top-15 finishes...Best varsity finish was T4th at the William H. Tucker Invitational, but best overall finish was T3rd at Herb Wimberly Invitational... Muthiya's other top-15 finish was T14th at the Barona Collegiate Cup. 2002-03 (SOPHOMORE): Tied for 10th at the National Invitational and the MWC Championships for his best finishes of the year...Also competed in the NCAA West Regional and the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row. 2001-02 (FRESHMAN): Made an immediate impact on the team... In only his second tournament, finished tied for 2nd at the Falcon-Antigua Tournament, where he shot a career-low 66 in the second round playing for the JV team...Kept Lobos afloat at MWC Championships, finishing 10th overall...Finished tied for 23rd at the NCAA West Regional...Came to UNM from Lusaka, Zambia, as the No. 1 ranked junior player in his country...Intended to come to UNM in 2000-01 but was held up by international testing standards... Speaks fluent English, which is his native tongue...Competed in many junior and professional tournaments as an amateur...Finished sixth as an amateur at the Zambian Open (-8) and third at the Botswana FNB Open (-12)...Won the Botswana Amateur Open at -6 and finished third at the Cock o' the North Championship at -4...Lowest two-round total was 136 (-10) at the Lusaka Junior Championship... Has been ranked top amateur in Zambia since 1996, when he was just 13...Has one career hole-in-one, in 2000 at the Lusaka Golf Club.
