Tucson, Ariz. -- After sitting at 10th place Monday, following 36 holes of play at the PING Intercollegiate, the New Mexico Lobos had an excellent overall day Tuesday to end up in a 6th place tie with Arizona State.

Four of the Lobos' five position players finished with par or better rounds to launch New Mexico into a final day score of 278 (-2). For the tournament, UNM carded a total of 848 (-4).

Michael Letzig fired a 66 (-5) on Tuesday to finish tied for 6th place among individual players. It was his third top-10 finish of the 2002-03 season. Ian Medlock shot a 70 (-1) to finish tied for 19th, Madalitso Muthiya shot an even par 71 as did Derek Abel. The two finished tied for 42nd place and in 81st place, respectively. Sophomore Jay Reynolds, the Lobos' fifth position player, withdrew from the tournament without finishing.

Jeff Briggs had a solid 75 to finish tied for 76th while David Schultz fired a 71 to finish tied for 52nd place. Both were playing as individuals.
