Wahiawa, Hawaii -- After one round of the John Burns Invitational in Hawaii, the UNM men's golf team stands in an impressive 2nd place tie with Southern Methodist University. The Lobos and Mustangs both shot team scores of 281, just one stroke back from team leader University of Arizona and three strokes ahead of fourth place San Diego State University.

Individually for the Lobos, junior David Schultz -- playing in only his third varsity tournament of the season -- led the way with a blistering 68 (-4) to finish tied for second place. Senior Michael Letzig is not far behind, finishing tied for 13th with his 2-under par 70. Freshman Jay Choi is tied for 20th place (71, -1), Ian Medlock is tied for 33rd after carding an even par 72 and Madalitso Muthiya is currently tied for 72nd place with a 4-over par 76.

Teams will play 18 holes Thursday and 18 holes Friday.
