Wahiawa, Hawaii -- Strong scores by all five University of New Mexico men golfers Thursday kept the Lobos in the hunt for the title at the John Burns Invitational in Hawaii with one day of competition left.

The Lobos shot a collective 286 (-2) on the day, to bring their team score to 567 (-9), which puts them in a two-way tie for 4th place with the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. The two teams trail San Diego State and Southern Methodist University, which are both sitting tied for 2nd place with scores of 566 (-10) and lone leader University of Arizona, on top with a two-day score of 563 (-13)

David Schultz remained the highest placing individual for the Lobos. He followed his 68 (-4) yesterday with a 1-over par 73 on Thursday to finish the day tied for 7th place with eight other golfers. Michael Letzig also shot a 73, after yesterday's 70 (-2), and he is locked in a tie with teammate Jay Choi at 23rd place with six other individuals. Choi carded an even 72 today to shore up his 71 (-1) from Wednesday.

Madalitso Muthiya had the Lobos' lowest round of the day, a scorching 68 (-4) to pull himself out of 72nd place and into a tie for 31st. He shot a 4-over par 76 Wednesday. Ian Medlock also shot a round of 73 (+1) Thursday. He is tied with seven other individuals for 38th place. Finally, New Mexico's Derek Abel, playing as an individual, rebounded nicely Thursday, firing a 73 (+1) after an 80 (+8) had him near the bottom of the individual finishers. He is currently tied for 82nd place.

The final round of the John Burns Invitational is set for Friday, with 18 holes due to be played. Results can be found at GoLobos.com.
