Men's Golf: Lobos Finish 14th at Arizona State Invite
Tempe, Ariz. -- The 17th-ranked University of New Mexico men's golf team finished 14th out of 19 teams at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational. UNM compiled a three-round team total of 8-under-par 856, which was 32 shots behind host and winner Arizona State.
The Sun Devils set a tournament record with a 40 under 824. Individual medalist David Schultz of TCU was just one stroke off the tournament record of 16-under-par 200 set by TCU's Bret Guetz last year. UNM's top individual was senior Michael Letzig, who tied for 17th at 7-under 209. Letzig shot 71 in the final round after a blazing 8-under par 64 in the second round. Jay Choi and Derek Abel were both at 218, tying for 65th place at 2-over-par. Ian Medlock tied for 78th at 220 (+4) while sophomore Madalitso Muthiya was at 223, good for 92nd place.
