Men's Golf: Lobos In Fifth Place At Barona Cup
LAKESIDE, Calif. ? The UNM men’s golf team carded a team score of 284 to secure a fifth place tie with BYU in the Barona Collegiate Cup after 18 holes. The Lobos are just eight strokes behind host San Diego State, which leads the 18-team field with a score of 276.
UNM’s Michael Letzig and Ian Medlock posted the highest individual scores for the Lobos with each carding a 69 (-3) after 18 holes of play in the 54-hole tournament. The two are tied for eighth place with six other individual players.
David Schultz followed with an even-par 72 (T30) and Jay Choi and Madalitso Muthiya each posted scores of 74 (+2), to put them in a tie for 56th place.
The Lobos came into the tournament as the highest ranked team participating. An October 12 Golfweek poll has UNM ranked sixth nationally.
