LAKESIDE, Calif. -- After 36 holes of play, the UNM men's golf team is now in sole possession of fifth place at the Barona Collegiate Cup in Lakeside, California with a two round score of 570 . The Lobos were tied for fifth after 18 holes with a team score of 284. But the team's second round 286, coupled with BYU's 281, put the Cougars in a tie for second and gave UNM the number five spot.

The Lobos are only five strokes back from second place BYU and San Diego State and 11 strokes back from the team leader University of Denver, which has carded an overall score of 559.

Individually for UNM, Michael Letzig followed his first round 69 (-3) with an even par 72 and Madalitso Muthiya vastly improved, carding a five under par 67 in the second round after a first round 74 (+2). Both are tied for 14th place.

Ian Medlock shot a 69 (-3) in the first round but posted a 74 (+2) to slip to a tie for 22nd place. Jim Anderson's 149 after two rounds (74, 75) puts him in a tie for 59th and freshman Jay Choi follows at 71st place (74, 76). !
