Giovanni Rollie and Lawrence Robledo each netted a goal in the Lobo victory. 11/18/2010 Day 1: Lobo Soccer Arrives in OmahaImages of the University of New Mexico men's soccer team at the first round of the NCAA Tournament vs. Creighton Paul Souders is in his sixth season with the University of New Mexico, and his fourth as Associate Head Coach. Souders' responsibilities include recruiting, particularly internationally, attacking, academics, as well as some aspects of the fall schedule, and all of spring scheduling, along with other duties. Souders is a two-time NSCAA Far West Region Assistant Coach of the Year (2011 and 2012) and has helped guide the Lobos to back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament in the last two seasons. He also oversees the program's academic work. The Lobos set a record for team grade point average with a 3.43 in the Fall semester of the 2012-13 academic year. The Lobos have fielded two-time Academic All-American Levi Rossi and two-time NSCAA Scholar Athlete Kyle Venter during the past two seasons. New Mexico student-athletes have also received academic all-region honors on six different occasions and academic all-conference honors on 25 different occasions since Souders was elevated to Associate Head Coach. Since arriving at New Mexico, Souders has continued to aid the Lobo success story on the pitch. With Souders in tow, UNM has qualified for four NCAA College Cups and claimed three MPSF regular season championships. He was also part of the program's first-ever undefeated season (18-0-4) in 2011. Prior to coming to New Mexico, Souders spent three seasons at Dayton, helping the Flyers to a 27-18-11 overall record. In addition to the success on the field, Souders has coached four former Flyers who have played professionally in North America and Europe. Dayton finished the 2007 campaign 10-4-5 overall and advanced to the opening round of the 2007 Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Championship. The Flyers completed the season on a six-game unbeaten streak, had two players selected to the All-Atlantic 10 and NSCAA/adidas® Middle Atlantic Region teams and finished No. 8 in the regional rankings. A native of Dallas and a graduate of Coppell High School, Souders earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education at Clemson University. Souders also played in the United States Olympic Pool for Under-23. He has coaching experience with the New Mexico State U-16 team. Souders was also a graduate assistant in 2004 at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. |
