Men's Soccer Lands Seven On Academic All-MPSF List
Jan. 8, 2010
WOODLAND, Calif.--The University of New Mexico men's soccer team has placed seven players on the Academic All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation list, as announced by the conference office today. The list includes seniors Justin Davis, Simon Ejdemyr, and Euan Holden, juniors Ryan Farquharson, Michael Reed, and James Urbany, and sophomore Lance Rozeboom.
This marks the third Academic All-MPSF award for Ejdemyr and Reed, the second for Davis and Urbany, and the first for Holden, Farquharson, and Rozeboom. All seven student-athletes maintained a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average and played in 50 percent or more of UNM's games during the 2009 season.
New Mexico landed more players on the list than any other team in the MPSF. The Lobos have had no less than five players earn the award since 2003.
New Mexico has continually garnered postseason academic awards, and the program has achieved a GPA above 3.2 as a team since the fall of 2003. The Lobos have had at least one player earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors since 2003 as well.
Ejdemyr kept the streak alive this year with a first team nod, headlining the release of the ESPN Academic list as the top vote-getter of all Division I athletes who were nominated. He was named the winner of the Academic All-America of the Year award in the University Division.
The Lobos were also awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award, an honor they have received for seven straight seasons.
