Dates Set for Lobo Soccer Academy
Albuquerque, N.M. - University of New Mexico head men's soccer coach Jeremy Fishbein will direct the Lobo Soccer Academy this summer at UNM. There will be two sessions available, July 14-18 and July 28-August 1.
The first session, July 14-18, will include: Half day programs for ages 6-10 Full day individual program for ages 11-18 Full day team camp for ages 11-18 The second session, July 28-August 1, will include: Half day program for ages 6-10 Full day individual program for ages 11-18 Full day team camp for ages 11-18 Full day elite program for ages 15-18 For more information on the Lobo Soccer Academy, call the UNM Soccer Office at (505) 277-2303 or email to junotunm.edu Half Day Develpomental Program Boys Ages 6-10 9:00 am - Noon This Programs main emphasis will be learning through FUN! Campers will play together in small-sided games, providing players as many touches as possible. All players will be taught the fundamental skills of the game along with basic team shape. Skill development, fun, and enthusiasm are shared throughout the week. Campers will be given a Lobo t-shirt and must bring their own age-appropriate ball. Full Day Developmental Program Boys Ages 11-18 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (9-12 on Fri.) The goal of this program is to develop each camper into a more serious soccer player. Players of all levels will improve fundamental skills through dynamic activities and games in a stimulating and challenging environment. Players will be placed in groups according to age and ability. Mornings will emphasize individual skills and afternoons will concentrate on team tactics and games. Video and chalk board sessions will be incorporated into the afternoons. Players will be provided with a quality Lobo camp ball and t-shirt. Campers must bring their own lunch. Full Day Team Program Boys Ages 11-18 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (9-12 on Fri.) This program will follow the same outline as the full-day individual program, but will allow teams to train together the full day and play matches as a team. UNM coaches will concentrate on areas requested by team coaches: system of play, team attacking, set plays, etc... Players will be provided with a quality Lobo camp ball and t-shirt. Campers must bring their own lunch. Full Day Team Program Boys Ages 15-18 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (9-12 on Fri.) Limit 40 The Elite Program is designed for the most serious and dedicated players with collegiate or professional playing aspirations. Campers who are entering the 10th grade through their freshman year of college are invited. Mornings will consist of advanced technical and tactical sessions and will simulate UNM training sessions. Afternoons will involve chalkboard discussions, video, quickness and speed enhancement training, and match play. All sessions will be run by UNM coaches and will be very physically demanding! Players will be provided with a quality Lobo camp ball and t-shirt. Campers must bring their own lunch. Academy Staff Director - Jeremy Fishbein Jeremy is the Head Coach of the UNM Mens Soccer Program. After serving as the Associate Head Coach for the Lobos in 2001, Coach Fishbein became the Head Coach in the summer of 2002. In his two years of involvement with the Lobo program, the team has won two conference titles and has made two trips to the second round of the NCAA Division I National Tournament. In 2002, Fishbein was named MPSF Coach of the Year and helped the Lobos post their best record of all time, 18-4-0. 2002 was his 10th year as a Head Collegiate Coach. During his tenure, his teams have won five conference titles and his players have gone on to play at the highest levels of professional soccer. He brings a wealth of youth coaching experience to his job. Jeremy has directed youth camps in Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. Coordinator - Carl Junot Carl is in his second year serving as Assistant UNM Mens Soccer Coach. Carl is a graduate of Furman University where he captained the program his senior year and was a member of three NCAA Tournament teams. Carl was a Regional All-American and attended the MLS player combine. Carl is actively involved in youth coaching and is entering his sixth summer of participation with summer academies. Assistant Coordinator - Jamie Clark Jamie is a first-year Assistant UNM Mens Soccer Coach. Coach Clark brings a wealth of knowledge to the UNM program and to our summer camps. Jamie is a graduate of Stanford University where he was the schools first ever All-American. Jamie played two seasons in the MLS with the San Jose Clash and one year in Scotland with Raith Rovers. Jamie has worked with youth for the past 10 years and is currently involved with youth coaching in the Albuquerque area. The remainder of the Lobo Soccer Academy Staff will be comprised of current and former Lobo coaches, college and high school coaches and Lobo players. Our staff consists of knowledgeable and experienced coaches who have a passion for coaching the game they love. Lobo Soccer Academy Facilities All Academy programs will take place at the UNM South Campus Athletic Complex. The facilities include the premier playing fields in Albuquerque, which are adjacent to classrooms, the UNM athletic training room, and the Lobo weightroom. Directions will be mailed upon receipt of your applications. Medical Supervision Qualified UNM athletic trainers will be present at all times during the duration of all programs. Trainers will care for minor injuries, sickness and ensure that all campers receive proper hydration. In case of an emergency, the UNM training room is located adjacent to the training fields. Goalkeeper Training Specialized goalkeeper training will be offered during the morning sessions. Goalkeepers will be incorporated into the afternoon sessions and matches. Camp Equipment & What to Bring Half day campers will receive a high-quality Lobo Soccer t-shirt and full day campers will receive a Lobo Camp ball and Lobo Soccer t-shirt. In 2002, with a record of 18-4-0 and a ranking in the final NCAA Division I Top-30, UNM players received numerous national awards, including one All-American, two Freshman All-Americans, three All-Region players, five All-Conference players, and two Academic All-Conference players. The team also posted a 3.2 g.p.a. and is highly involved with community outreach projects.
