Oct. 6, 2012
#5 Lobo Men's Soccer vs. Denver
#5 NEW MEXICO AT A GLANCE: The Lobos are coming off their first home regular-season loss since 2010. UNM dropped a 1-0 decision to Air Force on Friday night in overtime. It snapped the program's 17-match regular season home-unbeaten streak. UNM dominated the game statistically, but were unable to find the back of the net.
DENVER AT A GLANCE: The Pioneers overcame a slow start to win five-straight matches coming into MPSF play. They dropped their MPSF opener last week to Air Force by a score of 1-0. Friday night, the Pioneers earned a 1-1 draw against Houston Baptist University.
COACH FISHBEIN: Jeremy Fishbein is in his eleventh season as head coach at New Mexico. The program is 145-46-25 on his watch and has qualified for the NCAA Tournament eight out of his ten seasons in Albuquerque. Under Fishbein, the Lobos have a record of 69-15-9 (.810) in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play.
LOBOS TO WATCH: Devon Sandoval, the MPSF's leading goal scorer, has been quiet as of late. Sandoval has been unable to find the back of the net in UNM's last two matches. He and Blake Smith, one of the nation's leaders in assists, are overdue to register a point.
ALL-TIME VS. DENVER: Sunday afternoon's match will be the 33rd meeting in the two programs' history. New Mexico leads 17-12-3 in the series, which began in 1983. Under the tutelage of Head Coach Jeremy Fishbein, the Lobos are 13-4-2 against the Pioneers.
DOWN THE ROAD: The Lobos will be back on the road next week as they will play the duo of Air Force and Denver again. UNM will begin their trip in Colorado by facing Air Force on Friday night at 7 p.m. New Mexico will then face Denver at 1p.m. on Sunday, October 14th in Denver.
