Houston, Texas
UNM Men's Soccer Week 11 Notes ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The ninth-ranked University of New Mexico men’s soccer program hosts Houston Baptist University in their 2012 regular season finale. It will be Senior Night for New Mexico as they honor their six seniors; Devon Sandoval, Victor Rodriguez, Blake Smith, Levi Rossi, Travis Campbell and Nik Robson. #9 NEW MEXICO AT A GLANCE: UNM brings their five-match winning streak into Saturday’s showdown against the Huskies. The Lobos have shutout their opponents in every one of their five-straight wins. They enter the Houston Baptist match having not surrendered a goal in 465 consecutive minutes. HOUSTON BAPTIST AT A GLANCE: The Huskies will be embracing the roles of spoilers after they were eliminated from MPSF Tournament participation last weekend. HBU (4-9-2, 2-5-2 MPSF) will look to spoil the Senior Night party in their last match of the season. COACH FISHBEIN: Jeremy Fishbein is in his eleventh season as head coach at New Mexico. The program is 151-47-25 on his watch and has qualified for the NCAA Tournament eight out of his ten seasons in Albuquerque. Under Fishbein, the Lobos have a record of 75-16-9 (.795) in MPSF play. With a win on Saturday, Coach Fishbein would tie his former mentor Klaus Weber for the all-time wins record at the University of New Mexico. LOBOS TO WATCH: The Lobo attack has been lead by a pair of familiar faces. Seniors Blake Smith and Devon Sandoval are not only among conference leaders in assists and goals, but they rank among the nation’s best offensively. Smith has registered twelve assists, which make him first in the nation in assists per game (0.75). His counterpart Sandoval ranks eighth in the NCAA in goals with thirteen. This pair of senior will look for special performances on their Senior Night. ALL-TIME VS. HOUSTON BAPTIST: This will be the second-ever match-up between the two programs. The Lobos’ 2-1 win back in September in Houston was the first-ever meeting between the two teams. Nik Robson and James Rogers scored the two Lobo goals in the victory. With HBU finishing their first season in the MPSF and New Mexico leaving for Conference USA next season, this may be the last match-up between the two teams for the foreseeable future. DOWN THE ROAD: New Mexico will host the MPSF Tournament next weekend as the number one seed. The tournament will open play on Thursday, November 8 as the Lobos will have a first-round bye. Coach Fishbein and company will face the lowest remaining seed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 9 at the UNM Soccer Complex.
