Levi Rossi continues his career of academic achievement with another Academic All-District award.

Nov. 1, 2012

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico men's soccer team had three players named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team on Thursday. Senior Levi Rossi, sophomore James Rogers and sophomore Adrian Mora Delgado represented the Lobos on the All-Academic Team for District VII. The trio mark the 37th, 38th and 39th time a Lobo has received Academic All-District honors.

The award recognizes student-athletes on specific criteria including a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average and participation in at least half of their team's matches.

All NCAA Division I nominees are broken up among eight geographic regions, and they are voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. As All-District members, Rossi, Rogers and Mora Delgado will be placed on Capital One's Academic All-America ballot to be voted on later this month.

The Academic All-District honor is the first for James Rogers. Rogers is currently second on the team in goals with six and has also registered four assists this season. The six goals double his scoring output from a superb freshman season.

The academic award is also the first for Adrian Mora Delgado. The Costa Rica native is a Civil Engineering major who is one of 15 Lobos to have scored a goal this season. The sophomore has a pair of goals this season with the most recent being his second-half goal against CSU Bakersfield a week and a half ago.

This year's All-District academic award is the second of Levi Rossi's career. The senior was also a Capital One Academic All-American last season. He is on pace to collect his third-consecutive Academic All-MPSF award as well.

All three award winners are part of the program's wide-reaching community service projects. The team volunteers with numerous programs including youth soccer clinics in Albuquerque and in pueblos and Native American reservations throughout the state of New Mexico.

New Mexico men's and women's soccer programs combined to have seven Academic All-District award winners this fall. Last academic year, the entire athletic department only had eight All-District picks. The school record for all-district academic awards, for all teams, in one academic year is eleven (2009-10).

The men's soccer team is preparing for their regular season finale against Houston Baptist on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at the UNM Soccer Complex. It will be Senior Night for Rossi and his five other fellow seniors. The Lobos will also host the MPSF Tournament, which runs November 8-11 at the UNM Soccer Complex. As the regular season champions, New Mexico has earned a first round bye and will play the lowest-remaining seed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 9.
