New Mexico Men's Soccer is fully charged and ready to launch! The Notre Dame exhibition last Wednesday was a wake up call to the reality and rigors of soccer.... a very fine line when it comes to wins and losses. A 2-1 double overtime loss to the #3 ranked team in the country was initially a big disappointment to all of us. We went into the match expecting a victory. Our players expect to win every time they step on the field regardless of the opponent. After some serious reflection, video review, late night discussion, lack of sleep.... our coaching staff felt that early in the season, it is better to lose a match in which we under-perform, rather than "win ugly". How's that for some coaching double talk! The game could have gone either way and we had great chances to win....but lost. We didn't play well, we have evaluated, improved and are hungry! The bottom line, is that we need to be on our toes and ready to play 90 minutes every game!

We are off to Los Angeles Thursday afternoon for the season opener on Friday the 29th vs Loyola Marymont at 4:00 Pacific Time. We will be back to full strength (Euan Holden didn't play vs Notre Dame and Stephen Brown went out early with an injury). Tierney (took a late knock vs ND) is healthy and the attack will be firing on all cylinders. We play the second match of the LMU Tournament on Sunday the 31st at 1:00 vs the University of San Diego. Two great games and a challenging way to start the season!

Here are a couple of video links containing highlights from the last couple of seasons which should wet your appetite for Lobo Men's Soccer:

New Mexico Men's Soccer is in full swing. We are two days into preseason training and the boys look very sharp! Everyone has come into camp fit and excited. The returning players are providing tremendous leadership to a talented and enthusiastic group of newcomers. We kick off our playing schedule this Wednesday night, August 20th, at 7:00 PM in the Lobo Soccer Stadium vs Notre Dame. This will be our our lone exhibition match of the season. Both teams are ranked in the National "Top 20" and proceeds from the game will benefit the Cancer Society. Admission is free and donations will be collected by the Cancer Society at the gate. Should be a wonderful event. Other information which will be of interest to you:

The 2008 New Mexico Lobo Men's Soccer season is right around the corner! I just wanted to touch base and pass on some exciting information.

The season kicks off on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 7:00 p.m. (M.D.T.) with a home exhibition match vs nationally ranked Notre Dame. This will be a tremendous match and we want the stands to be packed! No admission will be charged.

Incoming freshman, Michael Green, was just named to the United States U-20 Youth National Team and traveled to Europe to represent the USA in an International tournament in Northern Ireland.

I would like to encourage all Lobo Men's Soccer Supporters to become members of our Golden Goal Club, the men's soccer booster club. All proceeds go directly to our program and members receive great Lobo gifts. Your support allows us to move forward in attaining our goal of being the "best program in the country". The link for the Golden Goal Club Brochure is http://golobos.cstv.com/auto_pdf/p_hotos/s_chools/nm/sports/m-soccer/auto_pdf/08goldengoal.

All home matches will be streamed live on the Internet again this year. Go to www.golobos.com and click on to men's soccer for more information as the season approaches.

Home games should be even more exciting this year, as the bleachers behind the goals will be opened and a loud and energetic drumming group will add to the atmosphere. Information will be send out soon regarding the Lobo Soccer Supporters Group, Los Rojos!

I will keep in close contact and hope to see everyone on August 20th. Thanks for the incredible support
