UNM Dominates Singles Field in Denver, Colo.

DENVER, COLO. -After the first day of the tournament draws to a close, the Lobos put up a tight match through doubles, and completely blew away their opponents in singles. Team scoring will not be used. Each player will be assigned points per win according to their position in singles and doubles. The overall winner will be the player with the most points at the end of the weekend. For example, a singles win is worth eight points at No. 1 down through one point at No. 8, and a doubles win is worth 4 points at #1 down through 1 point at #4.
For doubles, UNM faced the University of Nebraska falling in all four matches.
Singles was an entirely different story as the Lobos swept U.S. Air Force Academy winning 7 out of 8 matches. There was even an extra match with a Lobo defeating a Husker 8-4 in singles.
Samir Iftikhar faced Wilhelm to defeat him in solid two sets of 6-4, 6-3.
Conor Berg defeated Grubbs without dropping a single game to win the match 6-0, 6-0.
Jadon Phillips ranked #117 in the nation in singles, dropped only three games to win the match 6-3, 6-0 against Young.
Mads Hegelund faced Taylor to win the match with a score of 6-4, 6-2.
Riaan Du Toit won his first collegiate singles match against McCullers with a score of 6-4, 6-2.
Mitch McDaniels, who last weekend won the Midland Collegiate Invitational back draw in singles, defeated Katrien with a close finishing set of 6-2, 7-5.
James Hignett managed to pull out the `W' against Parks after a difficult second set. UNM won the match in three sets with a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.
Simon Hegelund fell in close three sets to Jackson with a score of 3-6, 7-6, 6-1.
Evan Corona-Saunders also was able to get some action in singles to defeat Nebraska's Gagan Jain 8-4.
