UNM vs. NMSU Coach Flannagan Quotes Opening Statement: "It was a typical game with New Mexico State; both teams went at each other, it was a big rivalry game. They have a lot of weapons on the floor. All of them were big; they can shoot it and block it. I think free throw shooting was really important. We have so many freshmen on the court and they are going to keep getting better. I looked out there one time and there were four freshmen and one senior. I thought Jessica Kielpinski had her best game by far this year. She has a nice shot. What happened tonight was she looked for her shots. We have to get back on defense. It's a confidence builder and a good successful game." On practicing for this game: "We had a really good week of practice. I thought we were practicing well. We didn't play great but our turnovers are down and I think we are playing a lot better. We just have to improve offensively." On their record before conference play: "Well I would like to be 12-0 but right now I'll take 6-6. We have played a very difficult schedule with a very young team. I hope that benefits us down the road."
Player Quotes Lauren Taylor and Jessica Kielpinski On shooting from the outside: Kielpinski - "I did not plan on shooting from the outside. I had planned on shooting a lot better. I started believing in my shot." On beating New Mexico State: Kielpinski - "It's big because every year they come here and they want to beat us. It is just a rivalry that is really exciting coming out with a win." Taylor - "It gives us great confidence going into conference. We have a week now until conference starts and it is good we have a positive start." On playing close games: Taylor - "I think it helps us. I mean I looked out there at one point and there were four freshmen on the court and that is pretty unorthodox. They are going to be so much better because of that." Kielpinski - "This matters because in years past in close games we would come up with the short end of the stick. We have been playing out there with a lot more wins."
