Oct. 22, 2012
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Senior guard Caroline Durbin was named to the 2012-13 Preseason All-Mountain West Team after the conference released its preseason polls and awards. Durbin's inclusion on the preseason all-conference team marks the second-straight year a Lobo had been voted to the team.
New Mexico was picked to finish sixth in the poll, which was voted on by the league's coaches and selected media. UNM's 97 points in the poll put them ahead of Boise State, Nevada and Air Force.
"The Mountain West Conference is going to be very competitive this year, especially with at the addition of Fresno State. Now that we have the polls out of the way, it's time to keep working hard because the season is right around the corner," said New Mexico Head Coach Yvonne Sanchez.
Caroline Durbin, the Austin, Texas native, is coming off a career year in her junior season. Durbin finished second in the league in scoring at 15 points per game. The guard also scored 20 points or more on six different occasions, which included a career-high 29 points versus Wyoming. She also led the league in three-point shooting at an impressive 47.7% (52-109). That percentage was the second-highest season mark in school history.
"It is a very deserved award, but even she will tell you the team's success is more important. I truly believe Caroline is going to have a very good senior year," noted Coach Sanchez's on Durbin's preseason accolade.
The Lobos will open their 2012-13 campaign with a pair of exhibitions inside The Pit. UNM will host Northern New Mexico at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30th before welcoming Eastern New Mexico on Saturday, November 3rd at 2 p.m. The regular-season opener is scheduled for November 9th versus Northern Arizona at 7 p.m. in The Pit.
