Ewart Ties for 10th at Irish Open; Top Amateur in the FieldUniversity of New Mexico women's golfer Jodi Ewart tied for 10th place at the AIB Ladies Irish Open played this weekend at the Portmarnock Links in Dublin, Ireland. Highlighted by a hole-in-one in the second round, Ewart finished at 2-under 214 (74-69-71). She was the top amateur in the 129-player field. On Saturday, Ewart aced the par-3, 165-yard 3rd hole on her way to a 3-under 69. Ewart, who will be a senior at UNM in 2009-10, was a first team All-American for the Lobos last season. She is a three-time Mountain West Conference Player of the Year.6/19/2009
2008-09 a Stellar Year for Women's GolfThe University of New Mexico women's golf team completed an outstanding season with a 19th-place finish at the NCAA Championships May 19-22 in Owings Mills, Md. The Lobos finished the season ranked 22nd in the nation in the final Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. UNM also won its second straight Mountain West Conference team title. "All-in-all, we had a pretty darn good year with two team titles, including a conference championship, and a trip to nationals," said UNM second-year head coach Jill Trujillo.5/26/2009
Ewart Named NGCA Division I All-AmericanUniversity of New Mexico women's golfer Jodi Ewart was named to the Duramed National Golf Coaches Association Division I All-American First Team following last week's NCAA National Championships. It is the second time in her career that the junior from North Yorkshire, England has received all-America honors from the coaches association. Ewart was a second team honoree as a freshman in 2007.5/22/2009
Lobos Finish 19th at NCAA ChampionshipsThe 22nd-ranked University of New Mexico women's golf team moved up one spot to finish in 19th place at the NCAA Championships played in Owings Mills, Md. It's the Lobos' best finish at nationals since tying for 15th in 2004. The Lobos shot a 22-over 310 at the par-72, 6,443-yard Caves Valley Golf Club today for a 72-hole total of 1,242. Aiming for a top-15 finish, UNM came out of the gates strong, making the turn at 4-over. The back nine, however, was unkind as New Mexico played that in 18-over, including seven lost shots on the final three holes. "It was a long, tough week," said UNM second-year head coach Jill Trujillo. "It was a great experience and I think the returning players learned a lot. All-in-all, we had a pretty darn good year with two team titles, including a conference championship, and a trip to nationals."5/21/2009
Lobos Remain in 20th at NCAA ChampionshipsThe 22nd-ranked University of New Mexico women's golf team produced its lowest score of the tournament, but was unable to make up much ground in the standings after three rounds of the NCAA Championships being played in Owings Mills, Md. The Lobos shot a 19-over 307 at the Caves Valley Golf Club for a 54-hole total of 932. UNM is in 20th place in the 24-team field, however, it is only eight shots from the 14th spot. The Lobos started the third round in a tie for 20th. Junior Britney Choy is UNM's top performer, shooting par-72 today, which ties for her low round of the season. She is tied for 20th place at 8-over 224. |
