No. 6 Women's Golf Remains In Second Place Heading Into Final Round Of Regional Challenge

PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The sixth-ranked New Mexico women's golf team remained in second place of the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 10) with a score of 299-305--604 (+36). No. 2 UCLA leads the field, which features seven teams ranked in the top 10, with a score of 286-293--579 (+11). The Lobos lead No. 3 Arizona by two shots and No. 11 Ohio State by eight shots going into Wednesday. Junior Kailin Downs (Bend, Ore.), who entered the day in second place at 1-under, slipped to a tie for eighth heading into the final round with a score of 6-over (70-78--148). Junior Shannon Johnson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) jumped up eight spots into a tie for 16th at 9-over (76-75--151). Senior Katrina Leckovic (75-78--153) and freshman Ashley Rollins (79-74--153) are both in a tie for 29th at 11-over. Rollins' 3-over 74 was the Lobos top score of the afternoon. Sophomore Christine Fernandez (Henderson, Nev.) shot 7-over for the afternoon, putting her at 14-over for the tournament (78-78--156) and in a tie for 39th. The Regional Challenge will wrap up with the third and final round Wednesday, Feb. 11 beginning at 8:30 a.m. PT. Live stats of the tournament will be available at www.golfstat.com.
