PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The sixth-ranked New Mexico women's golf team finished in second place at the prestigious Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge Wednesday afternoon with a score of 299-305-304--908 (+56). The Lobos placed ahead of five top 10 teams, including No. 3 Arizona, No. 5 California, No. 7 Georgia, No. 8 Oklahoma State and No. 9 Florida.

No. 2 UCLA claimed the Regional Challenge title with a commanding score of 286-293-297--876 (+24). UCLA's Charlotte Mayorkas won medalist honors with a 6-under 207 (66-69-72).

Junior Kailin Downs (Bend, Ore.) moved up four spots to place in a tie for fourth after firing a 2-over 73 in the final round. She finished with score of 70-78-73--221 (+8), good for her 11th career top-five finish.

Senior Katrina Leckovic (75-78-77--230) and freshman Ashley Rollins (79-74-77--230) each shot a 6-over 77 in the third round, putting them at 17-over for the tournament and in a tie for 26th place.

Sophomore Christine Fernandez (Henderson, Nev.) produced her best round of the tournament on Wednesday to move up five spots in a tie for 34th (78-78-77--233). Junior Shannon Johnson (76-75-87--238) finished in a tie for 47th.

The Lobos return to action March 16-17 at the Hawai'i Invitational in Oahu.
