No. 18 UNM Women's Golf In 16th Place After Day One At NCAA Preview Tournament

OPELIKA, Ala. - The 18th-ranked New Mexico women's golf team stands in 16th place after day one (Friday, Sept. 12) of the prestigious NCAA Preview Tournament hosted by Auburn University. Seventeen of the 18 teams competing are ranked in the Golf Digest Preseason Top 25, including No. 9 Auburn, who leads the tournament after the first round.
The Lobos shot a 310 (+22) at the Grand National Course, 24 shots off the pace of Auburn (286). Highly-touted freshman Ashley Rollins (Austin, Texas) did not disappoint in her Lobo debut, leading UNM with a score of 74 (+2), tying her for 21st-place overall. Senior Katrina Leckovic (Burnaby, British Columbia) shot four-over par with a round of 76, while junior Shannon Johnson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and sophomore Christine Fernandez (Henderson, Nev.) finished eight-over par (80). Junior Kailin Downs (Bend, Ore.), the two-time Mountain West Player of the Year, shot an 83 (+11).
New Mexico returns to action for day two of the NCAA Preview tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 13). The final round of the tournament is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 14.
