Columbia, S.Car. -- The 12th-ranked University of New Mexico women's golf team stands in sixth place after the first round of the Lady Gamecock Classic being played in Columbia, S. Car. UNM shot a first round 309 and are 13 shots behind tournament leader Wake Forest (296). Rounding out the top five teams include top-ranked Duke (300), Texas (301), while Auburn and host South Carolina are tied for fourth with 302s.

Junior Kristi Larsen leads the Lobo charge and is tied for ninth place shooting a +2 74 in opening round action. Sophomore Kailin Downs is tied for 27th with a 77 )+5) while fellow sophomore Christina Spence is tied for 30th with a 78.

Junior Katrina Leckovic is tied for 48th place with an 80. Freshman Kelli Van Winkle rounds out the Lobo squad sitting in 81st place after shooting a 93.

Second round action begins tomorrow morning at 8 a.m (EST). The tournament is being played at The University Club which plays to a par 72 on 5,996 yards.
