Sophomore Kailin Downs Tied for Fourth
Santa Clarita, Calif. -- The 13th-ranked University of New Mexico women's golf team sits in fifth place at the 2003 Pioneer Electronics UCLA Women’s Golf Classic. The Lobos shot a first round 306, with sophomore Kailin Downs scoring a low round of 73 (+1) to pace the Lobos. Downs is tied for fourth place.

Rounding out the top five teams include Cal who leads the tournament with a 296. UCLA’s B team is in second place with a 300 while Pepperdine and Southern California are tied at 304.

UNM junior Katrina Leckovic is tied for 14th place with a first round score of 75 (+3) while teammates Kristi Larsen, also a junior, and sophomore Christina Spence are tied for 41st with 79s (+7). Sophomore Shannon Johnson is close behind, tied for 52 after shooting an 80 (+8).

Second round action begins tomorrow morning at the Robinson Ranch Valley Course which plays to a par 72 on 6,254 yards.
