Update: The University of New Mexico women’s golf team will travel to Tempe, Ariz. and the 2003 PING/ASU Invitational, Apr. 4-6. The tournament will be played at Karsten Golf Course on the campus of Arizona State University.

Format: The tournament consists of 18 holes with an 8 a.m starting time on Fri., and Sat. followed by a 7:30 a.m. start on Sunday. The Karsten Golf Course plays to a par 72 on 6,183 yards.

Tournament Field: There will be 16 teams participating in the ASU Invitational including: host Arizona State, Arizona, California, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Oregon, Oregon State, San Jose State, Stanford, Texas, TCU, Tulsa, UCLA, USC and Washington.

Lobo Lineup: The UNM lineup for the ASU Invite is as follows: Kailin Downs, Katrina Leckovic, Christina Spence and Shannon Johnson. Kristi Larsen is tentatively scheduled in the lineup but suffered a sprained ankle at the UCLA Bruin Classic and my not travel. In this case - Kellyn Newman or Kelli Van Winkle will replace Larsen in the lineup.

New Mexico in the Rankings: In the latest poll released on Mar. 31 by GolfWeek Magazine, UNM drops climbs two spots to No. 11. The Lobos are also listed at No. 13 in both the GolfDigest Women’s Coaches Poll of Mar. 28 and in GolfStat NCAA stats (Mar. 25).

In GolfWeek individual rankings sophomore Kailin Downs ranks No. 23 in the nation. Throughout the season, Downs has ranked as high as No. 17 and no lower than No. 50. Sophomore Christina Spence climbs into the top-100 at No. 99. Junior Katrina Leckovic comes in at No. 103 while sophomore Shannon Johnson ranks No. 131. Junior Kellyn Newman is listed at No. 429 with freshman Kelli Van Winkle listed at No. 888.

Last Time • UCLA Bruin Classic Recap (Mar. 24-26): The 13th-ranked University of New Mexico women's golf team finished in a tie for third place with Texas Tech at the 2003 Pioneer Electronics UCLA Women’s Golf Classic. The Lobos shot a final round 304 to finish with a tournament score of 917 (+53).

Taking tournament honors was Pepperdine who finished with a 898 followed by USC (900), New Mexico and Texas Tech tied at 917, followed by California who rounded out the top five with a 918.

Setting the pace for the Lobos was junior Katrina Leckovic who finished tied for ninth with a three-round score of 226 (75-78-73). Leckovic shot a final round 73 (+1). Her ninth place was her second best performance of the year (T4th at the Stanford Invite).

UNM’s Kailin Downs, a sophomore, finished tied for 15th with a 228 (73-78-77 • +12). Sophomore Christina Spence placed tied for 26th with a 233 (79-78-76 • +17). Sophomore Shannon Johnson saved her best for last as she shot her best round of the tournament with a final round 78. Johnson finished tied for 59th with a 241 (80-83-78 • +25). Lobo junior Kristi Larsen withdrew in the final round with a sprained ankle.

The tournament was held at the Robinson Ranch Valley Course which played to a par 72 on 6,254 yards.

Shannon Johnson •played in five out of seven events for the Lobos this season •stroke average is 77.1 •shot a season low round of 71 in the second round of the UNLV Collegiate Showdown •best finish of the season was an 8th place at the 2002 McGuire •is listed No. 8 in MWC stroke average •is ranked No. 131 in GolfWeek individual poll (Mar. 31)

Kristi Larsen •came back from a hand injury to win the UNLV Collegiate Showdown in a playoff situation •her individual medalist honor at UNLV was the first tournament win for the junior at UNM •finished with a collegiate tournament low score of 215 (-1) •her final round 69 (-3) is a season low •Larsen was awarded the Leslie Self Inspirational Award - presented to UNM female student-athletes on an annual basis based on leadership, character, determination and commitment to team. Larsen was recognized during a men’s basketball pregame ceremony.

Katrina Leckovic •her tied for fourth place finish at the Stanford Invitational is the best at UNM •70 scored at the Stanford Invite (2nd rd.) and Kent Youel (3rd rd.) ties her collegiate low round •her tournament score of 220 at the Stanford Invite tied her best performance scored at the 2001 McGuire •season stroke average is 75.4, third best on the team •lists third in conference stroke average •is ranked No. 103 in the Nation in GolfWeek rankings •Led the Lobo charge at the UCLA Bruin Classic finishing tied for 9th out of 100 golfers
