Bend, Ore. -- The 12th-ranked University of New Mexico women's golf team sits in fourth place after the first round of the 2003 Mountain West Conference Championships being held today in Bend, Ore. The Lobos shot a first round 316 and are 11 shots behind tournament leader UNLV (305).

The tournament was delayed and moved to the Ambrey Glen Golf Course from the Meadows Course at Sunriver due to snow.

Leading the Lobos is junior Katrina Leckovic who is in second place with a first round 74, one shot behind UNLV’s Sunny Oh (73). Sophomore Kailin Downs is tied for 12th place with a 79 while junior Kellyn Newman is tied for 19th with an 81.

Sophomores Christina Spence and Shannon Johnson round out the Lobo squad, Spence tied for 21st place with an 82 and Johnson tied for 23rd with an 84.

Second round action begins tomorrow morning at 10 a.m (PST).
