Lobos in 14th Place at NCAA Central Regional

Lincoln, Neb. -- The 12th-ranked University of New Mexico women's golf team is in 14th place after two rounds of the 2003 NCAA Women's Golf Central Regional being held in Lincoln, Neb. The tournament was delayed yesterday because of rainy weather - hence a 36-hole shotgun start on the Firethorn Golf Course in Lincoln today. Junior Katrina LeckovicKailin Downs carded a second round 74 and is tied for 43rd place with a tournament score of 154 (80-74 * +13). Junior Kellyn Newman is tied for 77th place with her 160 (81-79 * +18) followed by sophomores Shannon Johnson (82-80* +20) and Christina Spence (88-74 * +20) who are both tied for 84th place with identical scores of 162. The final round will be played tomorrow morning at 8 a.m (CST). The Firethorn Golf Course plays to a par 71 on 6,033 yards. The top eight teams, plus two individuals not affiliated with said teams, qualify for the 2003 NCAA Women's Golf Championships, May 20-23 in West Lafayette, Ind. Purdue University hosts nationals.
