Justin Sells enters his first year as a volunteer assistant under head coach Kit Vela. Sells joined the coaching staff over the summer and will assist the Lobos throughout the year. Sells, who is a former UNM men's soccer standout, adds experience and leadership to the coaching box.
Sells was one of the top men's players in school history. He played for the Lobos from 1994-1997 under former head coach Klaus Weber. During his career, Sells became the all-time leader in goals scored (57), total points (132) and shots (322). He also received numerous honors throughout his career. In 1997, Sells was named to the Soccer America All-America team. He was a three-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Far West honoree from 1995-97. In 1995, he received all-conference honors in the Western Athletic Conference and in 1996-97 claimed all-conference recognition in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
The Rockton, Ill., native graduated from UNM with a degree in Physical Education. He is married to the former Rene Gonzales, who was a UNM women's soccer player from 1994-97. The couple currently resides in the Albuquerque area.
