Women's Soccer: UNM Tops Portland State 2-0
Complete Release in PDF Format Portland, Ore. The University of New Mexico women's soccer team beat Portland State today by a solid 2-0 score and improved its record to 7-5. The Lobos were able to get into a groove right from the first whistle and dominated the Vikings from start to finish. "We played hard for the entire 90 minutes and never let up. We really came together today and put away our scoring chances," said head coach Kit Vela. The first half of play ended with the score at 0-0 and it wasn't until the 47:21 mark that the Lobos were able to put a notch on the score sheet. Nicole Pitcock (Stockton, Calif.) recorded her second goal of the year after she received a ball over the top of the Viking defense from Marte Dolva (Geilo, Norway) which she was able to chip over the Portland State keeper. Just over ten minutes later, in the 58th minute, Rachael Addison (Tyler, Texas) got on the end of a Erchen Theys (Langdorp, Belgium) corner kick to widen the margin to 2-0.
The Lobos begin their conference slate this weekend with two games on the road against San Diego State on Oct. 11 and UNLV Oct. 13.
