Women's Soccer: Rachael Addison's First-Half Goal Secures 1-0 Lobo Win Over San Diego State
Complete Release in PDF Format San Diego, Calif. - Rachael Addison (Tyler, Texas) scored a brilliant header in the 23rd minute to lift UNM over San Diego State by a 1-0 score this evening at the SDSU Sports Deck. The win improves the Lobos to 8-5 and 1-0 in conference play while San Diego State drops to 7-4, 0-1 in the MWC. New Mexico goalkeeper Kristen Winters (Lakewood, Colo.) had another flawless game in net, making six saves and earning her second consecutive shutout. Although the shot tally was relatively low, eight for UNM and nine for SDSU, the Lobos' offensive persistence posed a threat to the Aztecs throughout the game. It was only a matter of time before New Mexico was able to break down the defense and get on the scoreboard. A free kick opportunity at the 23:56 mark proved to be the game decider. Erchen Theys fired the kick from the left side which Rachael Addison was able to redirect into the Aztec goal. Along with netting her fourth goal of the year, Addison also tallied 50 percent of the Lobo shots in the game.
New Mexico continues its conference schedule at UNLV on Sunday, Oct. 13 with a 12 p.m. kickoff. UNLV is currently 8-3-1 and will play its first conference match of the season when it faces New Mexico.
