CAREER HIGHLIGHTS -Played two seasons at New Mexico after transferring from Creighton...played in 14 games while making two starts. JUNIOR SEASON (2008) - Played one game during the 2008 season but primarily handled bullpen duties while working with the pitchers. SOPHOMORE SEASON (2007) - Made two starts and played in a total of 13 games in her first year at New Mexico...hit .077 in 13 at-bats with her only hit coming against North Dakota State on March 9...scored a run against UNLV on April 29 and finished the year with two walks...primarily used in pinch-hitting opportunities. CREIGHTON (2006) - Played in 32 games for Creighton, hitting .176 in 51 at-bats...collected nine hits and scored four runs including two doubles...went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI against Eastern Illinois and Northern Iowa...belted her first collegiate home run in the sixth inning of her first collegiate game. HIGH SCHOOL - Named first-team all-River Cities Conference and second-team all-state as a senior at Skutt Catholic High School, guiding her team to a third-place finish in the state tournament...honored on the first-team all-Omaha area and participated in the Nebraska All-Star game as a senior...hit .402 with 24 RBI and 19 runs scored in her final prep campaign...tabbed second-team all-conference and honorable mention all-state honors as a junior. PERSONAL - The daughter of Bonnie and Jim Balkovec, Rachel was born on July 7, 1987, in Omaha, Neb...intends to major in psychology...has two siblings; Stephanie (22) and Valerie (18)...is the first Division I softball player to come out of Skutt Catholic HS. |
