ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The Lobo softball team finished the short fall ball season with a 5-2 mark, sweeping Eastern New Mexico at home on Oct. 6 and going 3-2 at the Arizona Fall Classic in Tucson, Ariz., Oct. 12-14.

The Lobos' doubleheader with the Zias resulted in two wins for the home team, 5-3 and 4-0.

Senior Kari Gutierrez started the first game with freshman Lisa Rodrigues coming in to throwing a few innings and sophomore Carrie Sheehan pitching the last inning. UNM got a triple a piece from junior Chelsea Anaya and senior Kaity Ingram.

Sheehan got the start in game two with ENMU and threw the first two innings before freshman Lauren Soles stepped in to the circle. Soles handled pitching duties through the fifth inning and senior Kaela DeBroeck finished off the final two innings for a combined shutout effort.

Offensively, Anaya and Ingram both finished the day 3-for-6 and each had a single, double and triple. Newcomers Naomi Tellez and Mariah Rimmer each had two hits in the doubleheader.

New Mexico split games on the opening day of the Arizona Fall Tournament, getting a win over Central Arizona and taking a loss to Arizona. The Lobos also went 1-1 on the second day of the tourney, dropping a game to Pima Community College and defeating Cypress College. UNM finished the weekend in Tucson with a win over South Mountain Community College.

Rimmer had an exceptional weekend, going 7-for-13. The freshman also finished the seven fall games perfect in stolen base attempts.

Anaya hit 7-for-15 and senior Sheryl Guillermo went 6-for-14.

Junior Jordan Sjostrand recorded two homers over the weekend while senior Amber Tracy hit her first collegiate home run -- a grand slam in the Lobos' final game against South Mountain Community College.

Thirteen student-athletes return from last season's team and the Lobos welcome six new members. New Mexico softball's 2013 season will begin on the road at the Kajikawa Classic hosted by Arizona State, Feb. 7-10.
