Divers Return to Duke City after Successful Weekend in Arizona
Nov. 19, 2012
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The UNM diving team finished competition at the 5th Annual Wildcat Diving Invitational on a high note as junior Megan Harper placed fifth off the platform dive with a final score of 216.10.
The fifth place in the platform brings Harpers' weekend haul to: fifth place off the platform, second place in the 3 meter (313.90) and seventh off the 1 meter (272.00). Her fifth place finish off the 33 ft. high platform is made all the more impressive when one considers that there is no platform in the entire state of New Mexico for the native of Phoenix, Ariz. to practice on. Harper was one of six divers from Mountain West schools to place in the platform event.
Sophomore Michole Timm was also solid for the Lobos finishing in fourth place in the 1 meter board with a score of 286.55 and fifth in the 3 meter with 297.15 points.
Aubrey Bush was the third Lobo to compete in the invitational, and the lone senior on Sanchez's squad is proving to be a challenger for conference titles after returning from injury. The product of Eaglecrest, Colo. took first place in consolation off the 1 meter dive with a score of 270.70 to place her ninth overall. Off the 3 meter she was sixth with 290.05 total points.
Each Lobo was successful and placing in the top ten of each event is impressive. The invitational consisted of divers from such storied programs such as Stanford, Arizona State, Cal-Berkeley and University of Arizona. Entries for both the 1 and 3 meter dives totaled 45 and in the Platform there were 24.
The divers are done for the 2012 calendar year, they will return to action when the UNM swimming and diving team welcomes Grand Canyon to Seidler Natatorium for the final home meet of the season which will also serve as senior day for six Lobos.
