Women's Swimming And Diving: UNM Finishes Third At Early Bird Invite

Fort Collins, Colo. - The University of New Mexico women's swimming and diving finished in third place after two days of competition at the Early Bird Invite at Colorado State. The Lobos accumulated 726 points, finishing behind host CSU (1,273) and Wyoming (756). UNM had top-16 finishers in 19 events, two of which were diving.

Once again, Nicole Overeem (Hutchinson, Kan.) had a solid performance for the Lobos with two first-place finishes. On Oct. 18, Overeem grabbed the top spot in the 500 free with a time of 5:13.17. The next morning, Oct. 19, the sophomore won the 1650 free with a time of 18:06.13.

Myra Will (Tillamook, Ore.) and Aimee Dunavant (El Paso, Tex.) also had a top finishes for New Mexico. Will won the 50 free recording a time of 24.86 and Dunavant clinched first in the 100 fly in 1:00.73.

First and second in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events were both grabbed by the Lobos. Becca Barras (Kitchener, Ontario) won the 1-meter dive with 247.75 points and garnered first in the 3-meter with a score of 447.60. Teammate Tracey Berghian (Phoenix, Ariz.) was close behind in both events with two second place finishes in the 1-meter (241.25) and the 3-meter (442.05).
