Prior to UNM

Alyssa comes to us from Texas where she competed in one of the most talented fields in the country during her junior days. Determined to come to UNM, she declined other D1offers and attended Lee Junior College for a year awaiting an open slot at UNM. At Lee, she became Junior College National Doubles Champion.

Personal

She is the daughter of Rex Caffey and Teresa Garcia and has two siblings, Ashley and Joe. She enjoys listening to music, and hanging out with friends. Her major is undecided. Her cousin, Lee Roy Caffey, played football for Texas A&M and was drafted to Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys. He won a world championship and three Super Bowls during his time in the pros. Alyssa's greatest thrill is competing for a national championship and winning a doubles title.

Head Coach Roy Canada on Caffey:

"Alyssa is one of the best doubles players to come to this program. She has steadily improved her game and is hungry now to make her mark in Division 1 tennis having conquered the Junior College ranks."

Assistant Coach Michelle Heidbrink on Caffey:

"Alyssa has been a great addition to the Lobos this year. She's a great teammate and has a wonderful knowledge of doubles. She is a solid all court player and is fun to watch how aggressive she is at the net."
