Tessmar Notches Third Singles Win Of The Season

Albuquerque, N.M.-Sophomore Victoria Tessmar notched her third win of the season today in a victory over Boise State's Bianca Jochimsen, 3-6, 6-4 (12-10). Unfortunately Tessmar's win wasn't enough for the No. 50 Lobos (2-6) today as they fell to No. 46 Boise State (8-2), 6-1 at the Randy Briggs Indoor Tennis Bubble.
In Tessmar's victory over Jochimsen, the Stockholm, Sweden product lost the first set but came back for revenge dominating the second set.
"I played the same girl in doubles and lost, so this match wasn't easy," Tessmar said. "It was nice to get the win, a little revenge."
Tessmar won the match in tiebreaker 12-10.
Ola Abou-Zekry had an intense match at the No.1 spot against Pitchittra Thongdach losing 4-6, 6-2 (10-9). Abou-Zekry started out behind in the first set 2-4 but came back to tie it at 4-4. The next point went back and forth between ace and deuce. Thongdach came away with the point making it 5-2 and finished the set at 6-2.
Abou-Zekry battled back and downed Thongdach in the second set never giving Boise State the lead. In the tiebreaker Abou-Zekry was up 4-0 but couldn't hold on and let Thongdach tie it at 8-8, who ended the match two points later at 10-9.
It was a battle for the doubles point today as well as the duo of Abou-Zekry and Emma Hayman made the most of every point. The pair was down 2-4 with the game at 30-0 New Mexico, Abou-Zekry caught the ball with a mean backhand to put the match at 3-4. Abou-Zekry and Hayman lost the next two points and were down 3-7 until Abou-Zekry got the next point with an overhand to the opposite corner making the match 4-7. The duo kept the momentum going capturing the next point as well. Unfortunately Boise State made a run for it and won the match 8-5.
Mackenzie White and Tessmar put up a fight. New Mexico had a 3-2 lead until Baum and Jochimsein made the match 3-3. After that it was back and forth the entire time. The teams battled it out in a tiebreaker with the match at 7-7. White and Tessmar lost the tiebreaker 6-7 making the final score 7-8.
The Lobos will be back action Sunday at 11 a.m. taking on NAU.
