ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico women's tennis team ended the first day of the Lobo Fall Invitational with three of four doubles teams and two singles players advancing to the semifinal rounds to be played Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Lobo Tennis Club.

In singles action, Lobo junior Iva Gersic won both of her matches in two sets each as she defeated Northern Arizona's Georgie Mills, 6-1, 6-0 and Colorado's Franziska Jendrian, 6-4, 6-1.

Junior Elisa Bonner made her way to the semifinals after defeating Northern Arizona's Lindsay Villegas, 6-1, 6-3 in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Bonner played a quick match against teammate Lucy Scott who was forced to retire due to illness.

The top doubles team of Maja Kovacek and Gersic won its match of the day with a 8-4 victory over Colorado's Monica Milewski and Martina Sedivec. Jennifer Ryba and Maria Sotirchos also collected a win against Colorado's Veera Nurmi and Alli Quinn, 8-4. Rounding out New Mexico's doubles victories was Mackenzie White and Nora Quintal as they defeated Colorado's Jenny Hanson and Gleisy Torres Torres, 8-5.

 

 

Day two of the UNM Fall Invitational will start Saturday at 9 a.m. Double matches will be played first followed by singles.
