Women's Tennis: Sandy Lukowski Named MWC Co-Player Of The Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - Junior tennis player Sandy Lukowski has been named the Mountain West Conferences Co-Player of the Week with UNLVs Paulina Janus. The honor comes after Lukowskis outstanding 2-1 performance at the No. 2 spot last weekend when the Lobo squad travelled to the southeast to face No. 20 South Alabama, No. 23 Virginia Commonwealth and No. 32 Tulane.
Lukowski defeated Christina Arribas of Virginia Commonwealth in two straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 on March 14 before winning undoubtedly her biggest career match on March 16. The Calgary, Alberta native downed No. 21-ranked Julie Smekodub of Tulane, 7-5, 6-1 to claim a victory over her highest ranked competitor this season.
The honor comes as the third for the No. 52 UNM tennis team this spring, which is the most for any MWC school. Freshman Maja Kovacek and sophomore Tiffany Robertson also garnered the award earlier this year.9
