Colorado Springs, Colo. - After a fifth place finish in the Mountain West Conference regular season standings, the 73rd ranked University of New Mexico women's tennis team (11-10, 4-4 MWC) earns a No. 5 seeding for the MWC Championship and is slated to take on No. 49 and fourth seeded San Diego State. The tournament will be played on April 26-28 at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The fifth seeded Lobos will play their first match on Thursday, April, 26 at 2:00 p.m. MT against fourth seeded SDSU. The semifinals will take place on Friday April 27 and should the Lobos win they'll take the courts at 2:00 p.m. MT. The final match of the MWC Championship will be played on Saturday the 28th at 10:00 a.m.

The regular-season championship was shared between two teams, No. 28 BYU with an 18-6, 7-1 MWC record and No. 36 TCU posting a 16-8, 7-1 MWC record. However, the BYU Cougars earned the No. 1 tournament seed due to their win over the TCU Horned Frogs in the regular-season competition.

A tie break was also necessary for the No. 3 and 4 regular-season finishers with SDSU sporting a 14-10, 6-2 MWC record and 55th ranked UNLV with a 17-6, 6-2 record. UNLV earned the No. 3 seed in the bracket from the team's regular-season win over the Aztecs. Utah took the No. 6 seed with its 13-10, 305 MWC record and Wyoming takes the last spot on the quarterfinal bracket as the seventh seeded team (6-14, 2-6 MWC). Eighth seeded Colorado State (8-11, 1-7 MWC) and the No. 9 seed, Air Force (10-15, 0-8 MWC) will play on Wednesday April 25th to determine who will play BYU in the quarterfinal round.

The MWC Championship will begin on Wednesday April 25 at 10:00 a.m. MT with a match between bottom seeds Colorado State and Air Force. The quarterfinal round will begin at 10:00 a.m. MT on Thursday, April 26 with No. 2 TCU and No. 7 Wyoming, and No. 3 UNLV and No. 6 Utah opening on the day. The other two matches, No. 1 BYU vs. CSU/AFA winner and No. 4 SDSU vs. No. 5 New Mexico, will be at 2:00 p.m. MT. The semifinal matches will take place on the 27th at 10:00 a.m. MT and 2:00 p.m. MT. The MWC Championship final round is set to be played at 10:00 a.m. MT on Saturday the 28th.
