Albuquerque, N.M. -- University of New Mexico head coach Kelley Sliva today announced the release of the 2003 Lobo Volleyball Schedule. The Lobos begin their 29th season of competition on the road at the Fresno State Invitational on Aug. 29-30, before heading home to host the Comcast Lobo Invitational on Sept. 5-6 with Alcorn State, Delaware and Youngstown State participating.

In other preseason tournament action New Mexico will travel to the Washington State Cougar Mania Invitational on Sept. 12 and 13. The tournament field includes Loyola Marymount, Utah Valley and host WSU. The Lobos will then host the Albuquerque Marriott Lobo Volleyball Classic on Sept. 19-20 with Ohio University, Sacramento State and Kentucky heading to the Duke City.

Other scheduled matches include a home and away series against instate rival New Mexico State on Sept. 22 in Albuquerque and Oct. 21 in Las Cruces.

We have a good mixture of teams listed on the schedule, stated Sliva. This schedule should provide our team with an opportunity to play against some of the top teams in the nation. To get good we must play good teams. We hope to parlay this into some confidence heading into the highly competitive Mountain West Conference schedule.

New Mexico will face six teams which participated in the 2002 NCAA Volleyball Championship including Fresno State, Cal Poly, Washington State, Sacramento State, and conference rivals Colorado State and Utah.
