UTA Holiday Inn Invitational: After a couple of days of shuffling the schedule, the Lobos will play just two matches in Arlington - Friday vs. Sam Houston State and Saturday against host Texas-Arlington. The schedule was re-worked with the withdrawal of Texas Southern and addition of Houston in the tournament, due to issues from the aftermath of Hurricane Ike in the Houston area. New Mexico is 3-0 against Sam Houston State and is 1-2 against Texas-Arlington.
Up Next: The Lobos wrap up their 11-match road trip with MWC matches at San Diego State (Sept. 25) and UNLV (Sept. 27).
Mileage Rewards ... The Lobos hope to rack up some wins in September to go along with the frequent flyer miles. UNM picks up 1,272 more miles this week, roundtrip to Dallas/Fort Worth, bringing the two-week total to 6,656.
More Tournament Wins and Honors ... The Lobos earned runner-up honors at the Ameritas Players Challenge, hosted by Nebraska, over the weekend. UNM beat St. John's, 3-0, on Friday and lost to No. 2 Nebraska, 3-0, in the winner's match on Saturday. Jeanne Fairchild and Jade Michaelsen were named to the all-tournament team. It is the third all-tournament team honor for each player this season.
A part of history ... The crowd at the Devaney Center in Lincoln on Friday night to watch UNM-St. John's and Nebraska- LSU topped out at an NCAA regular season record of 13,412. The next day 4,153 crammed into the cozy confines of the NU Coliseum to watch the Huskers win their 107th consecutive home match in the Coliseum. It was also a sellout, again, for the Huskers. The sea of red cheered for every team on great plays with the loudest coming for the home team.
