Update - The University of New Mexico volleyball team (6-10, 1-2 MWC) will host the Wyoming Cowgirls on Fri., Oct. 11 and the Colorado State Rams on Sat., Oct. 12 both matches to be held in The Pit at 7 p.m. The CSU match will be played before the annual Lobo Howl showcasing the men’s and women’s basketball teams. The Howl is set to start immediately after the volleyball match.

Ticket Information - Tickets for Lobo Volleyball can be purchased through the UNM Athletics Ticket Office at 505.925.LOBO (5626) or through Tickets.com, at 1.800.905.3315. All seats are General Admission. Single game prices are $4 for Adults, $3 for Seniors (55+), and $2 for Youth (18 and under). UNM Faculty and Staff as well as, UNM Students are free with valid ID.

Looking at the Competition - The Wyoming Cowgirls are an impressive 15-3 overall and 1-2 in the MWC. This past weekend Wyoming defeated UNLV 3-0, and lost to San Diego State, 1-3 in Laramie. Colorado State is 11-6 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 3-0. CSU defeated SDSU in a tough five-game match and swept UNLV in three games this past weekend at home.

Series vs. Wyoming/Colorado State - The series between New Mexico and Wyoming is tied at 23-23 heading into their 47th meeting. The last time the two schools met was during the 2001 season in Laramie with the Lobos taking the match in a tough five-game series, 30-24, 23-30, 30-27, 19-30, and 16-14. The CSU Rams hold a 23-20 series record against UNM. Colorado State swept the Lobos in Ft. Collins last season in three games, 20-30, 21-30 and 25-30.

Recap • at Utah - The Lobos lost to No. 20 ranked Utah Utes in four games by the scores of 30-25, 20-30, 24-30, 26-30, in Salt Lake City. The Lobos dropped to 6-9 overall and 1-1 in the MWC. Behind the hitting of senior Vanessa Shields who scored her sixth double-double of the season with 12 kills and 10 digs. Back in her home state, freshman Chelsea Sondrup, from Lindon, Utah, also had double figure kills with 10. She added one block solo and five block assists. Junior Andrea Sanchez added a career-high 12 digs to UNM’s total 41. The Lobos served up eight aces including a team-high three from sophomore Monica Meihack. As a team UNM hit .185 on 51 kills, 23 errors in 151 attempts to Utah’s .287 (70k-27e-150ta). vs. BYU -- BYU Cougars defeated New Mexico in three games, 27-30, 20-30 and 13-30. UNM dropped to 6-10 overall and are 1-2 in the Mountain West. In game one, the Lobos and Cougars battled back and forth with BYU taking the match 30-27. Junior Anna Reines and senior Vanessa Shields scoring seven and six kills respectively. BYU scored 12 blocks to UNM’s four in game one with the Cougars defensively outdigging the Lobos 39-29. The Cougars took a commanding 6-1 lead in game two before New Mexico came back to make the match interesting at 10-8. The Lobos passing proved to be their downfall as the BYU middle took advantage to take the second game by the score of 30-20. New Mexico struggled in game three with passing and bad returns which caused BYU to take the game 30-13. BYU hit .355 for the match to UNM’s .113. Shields led the Lobos with 9 kills on the match, while Reines scored seven. Senior Blaire Burns led the Lobos in digs with 13. Sophomore setter Monica Meihack had 29 assists.

Head Coach Kelley Sliva - Sliva comes to UNM after spending the past nine years at Northern Arizona University. Her career record stands at 149-114 (.567). While at NAU, Sliva took the Lumberjacks to their first NCAA Volleyball Championship appearance (1999) and earned two Big Sky titles (1999 tournament and 2000 regular season). Sliva was named the 1999 Big Sky Coach of the Year. Sliva’s NAU teams scored five straight winning seasons, going 90-45 since the 1997 season.

Mountain West Conference - Two Lobos are listed in MWC stats (all matches) in kills - junior Anna Reines is ninth in kills averaging 3.44 per game. Senior Vanessa Shields is 12th averaging 3.07 kills per game. Sophomore Monica Meihack is listed seventh in assists averaging 10.19 per game and ninth in digs averaging 2.64. Senior Blaire Burns ranks fifth in digs with a 3.03 per game average. Senior Staci Masten is 13th in blocks averaging 1.03 per game. Freshman Chelsea Sondrup moved into the blocks list at No. 14 with a 1.02 per game average. In conference only matches, Shields is third the conference in service aces with a 0.60 per game average. Burns is listed third in digs with a 3.40 per game average.9
