Volleyball: Lobos Lose to Rams, 3-1
Complete Release in PDF Format Albuquerque, N.M. -- The University of New Mexico volleyball team succumbed to the Colorado State Rams, 3-1, in front of a record 1,422 tonight at The Pit. The Lobos lost 30-26, 21-30, 26-30, and 22-30 to fall to 6-12 overall and 1-4 in the MWC. CSU improves to 13-6 and a perfect 5-0 in conference play. Leading the Lobos was senior Vanessa Shields who scored 11 kills and had nine digs on the evening. Shields added three service aces. Senior Staci Masten added nine kills and hit .273 against the Rams (9k-3e-22ta). Junior Anna Reines, who played in only two of the four games, hit .375 on eight kills, two errors in 16 attempts. Sophomore setter Monica Meihack totaled 35 assists, nine digs and three service aces. CSU out hit the Lobos .283 on 72 kills , 29 errors on 152 attempts to UNM’s .148 (45k-24e-142ta). New Mexico totaled 42 digs, nine service aces and 14 block assists.
The Lobos are at the mid-point of their conference schedule and will be back in action against UNLV on Oct. 18 and SDSU on Oct. 19. Their next home match will be Nov. 1 against BYU and on Nov. 2 against Utah, both matches slated for a 7 p.m. start at Johnson Arena on the UNM main campus.
