MWC Volleyball: Lobos Swept by Aztecs, 3-0
Complete Release in PDF Format Fort Collins, Colo. -- The No. 2 seeded San Diego State Aztecs defeated the seventh-seeded New Mexico Lobos in the first round of the 2002 Mountain West Conference volleyball championships in three games 30-23, 30-23, and 30-27 today in Fort Collins. The Lobos drop to 8-20 overall while SDSU improves to 21-11. Junior outside hitter Anna Reines, who was named MWC All-Conference, finished the match with 19 kills, three digs and two blocks and was named Cooper Tires Player of the Game for New Mexico. Reines was the lone Lobo in double figure kills. Senior Blaire Burns, who switched positions from libero to outside hitter finished with 11 digs and scored seven kills. Burns finished hitting .300 (7k-1e-20ta). Senior Vanessa Shields scored a team high four block assists and added the lone block solo for UNM. As a team UNM hit .241 on 51 kills, 18 errors in 137 attempts to SDSU’s .302 (62k-20e-139ta).
The Lobos return to the Duke City to prepare for their annual Albuturkey Tournament scheduled for Nov. 29-20 with national powerhouse UCLA, Butler and Rice participating.
