ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Football practice is a grind.  Football practice under the auspicies of Fall Camp is a bigger grind.  So Thursday provided a little bit of welcome relief for the 2016 Lobo football team, as for about an hour, they had a chance to meet some fellow students, make a few fans, and teach the game they love.  In partnership with UNM Greek Life, the Lobo football team sponsored a free Greek Life Clinic for nearly 200 members of various UNM sororities.

Set up and administered identically to UNM’s highly fun and successful Women’s Clinics, Coach Davie spoke to the participants before introducing the 2016 captains and leadership council.  After that, and the requisite group photo of about 300+ college students, it was time to leave the giant shade tree inside University Stadium, and hit the South Practice Fields for the clinic.

25587Both practice fields were set up identically with six stations, showcasing various drills that the team goes through during camp, from the ladder drill, to high-stepping over stationary bags, to hustling around hoops and throwing and receiving.  All involved had a great time, smiling for the various media cameras on hand, and documenting things on social media.

At the end, with ice cold water and Gatorade provided by the athletic department, Coach Davie judged a short dance contest, which was easily won by the sororities.  Coach Davie, who joined in teaching a drill or two, bouncing from one field to the other, brought everyone together for some parting words.  “You only have a short time here at UNM,” he said, addressing both his own team and the sororities.  “Do everything you can to make a positive impact at UNM.”

Fitting words indeed.Reminder that Fan Photo Day will take place on Saturday, with doors to University Stadium opening at 10:15.  More information is available here.  THe season opener is exactly two weeks away, and the first 5,000 fans get their very own UNM Spirit Bands.
